I am a professor of Biological Sciences at the University of Northern Colorado, where I conduct research, collaborate with students, and teach courses about organismal diversity and animal behavior.  

As an ornithologist, I study the communication signals that birds use to organize their varied and fascinating social lives. I ask: Why do birds sing? Why does each bird sing differently?
